A Wonder Man series is in development at Disney+, and it’s also been reported that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman, The Matrix Resurrections) will be starring as the titular superhero. That follows the announcement that Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) would be directing the series while Andrew Guest (Hawkeye) would be serving as head writer. Many people were saddened by the death of Ronnie Spector earlier this week, but one person who had special reason to mourn the loss is actress Zendaya, who will play The Ronnettes lead singer in Be My Baby, a new biopic focusing on the early life and career breakthrough of the star. Spector’s death was announced on Wednesday, when she passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 78, and tributes from many performers across the industry were fast coming as well as from many fans....

Willy Wonka has been a beloved character for multiple generations. The character originated from the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, written by Roald Dahl. The novel has since inspired two movies, the 1971 film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, and the 2005 iteration of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp portraying the famous chocolatier. Frank Spotnitz, the horrormeister behind The X-Files and Night Stalker, has scared up a new seven-figure overall deal at Touchstone Television. The deal kicks in this summer and runs through 2008. It continues a relationship that began in 2004, when Spotnitz left longtime home 20th Century Fox TV to set up his Big Light Productions on the Touchstone lot. Jana Fain remains as director of development for the company. Spotnitz was a central creative force on Chris Carter’s The X-Files, working on the show from its second season through its ninth year in 2001....

A new Apple TV+ series called Lazarus is currently in pre-production, and Deadline has reported that Zazie Beetz and Tom Hardy are set to star in the show. It’s based on a book series by authors Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril, going by the pen name of Lars Kepler. In the series, detective Saga Bauer, played by Beetz, investigates a strange case in which a missing person appears thirteen years after being abducted along with his sister, who is still missing....

With the one-two punch of Hereditary (2018) and Midsommar (2019), Ari Aster endeared himself to lovers of horror, the art-house, and all things bizarre. After a three-year hiatus, he will return this year with Disappointment Blvd. (2022), the sprawling story of a successful entrepreneur starring Joaquin Phoenix. The cast also includes names as big as Nathan Lane, Meryl Streep, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Richard Kind. Aster is set to co-produce with Midsommar producer Lars Knudsen, and the film will be distributed by A24....
