Netflix has long been known for adapting best-selling novels into films and television shows, and 2022 saw a slew of them, including The Gray Man, Bridgerton, and Persuasion. While fans urge for sequels to popular shows like Inside Job, the streaming platform continues to add new shows to its catalog. Nonetheless, it’s not a bad way to approach viewers, especially since several of them are based on best-selling novels like the upcoming The Snow Girl.

The Snow Girl is an upcoming Netflix miniseries based on Javier Castello’s best-selling novel that takes place in Malaga in 2010. A happy family faces a bitter reality when their daughter Amaya goes missing during the Three Wise Men Parade, one of Spain’s most awaited events. Netflix has released the official trailer for this upcoming crime thriller series, and here’s a breakdown of the trailer to resolve any unanswered questions that may have arisen in viewers’ minds.

Amaya: The Girl Who Disappeared

The Snow Girl trailer begins with the protagonist Miren (Milena Smit) attending an investigative reporting lecture while paying close attention as if she was born to do so. As the professor begins to discuss the difficulties they will face, he brings up the subject of a missing girl named Amaya. The trailer then cuts to the next scene, which shows Amaya’s parents shouting her name and searching through the crowd during the Three Wise Men parade.

However, their efforts have become futile because the girl vanishes without a trace, and eventually, the news reaches the reporters, who gather to speculate on what happened. Miren arrives on the scene to find the parents crying and losing hope of finding her, and she follows them into the house in the hopes of helping them. As she claims, “If there’s something I know, It’s pain. I want to help you find your daughter,” the trailer delves a little deeper into Miren’s personality and how she doesn’t trust the police because they failed her in a similar situation two years ago.

In the following scene, we see Inspector Millan (Aixa Villagran) advising her not to investigate the case because it could make the kidnapper nervous, which would be unsafe for Amaya. However, as the authorities search for her, Miren and her parents do everything they can to save their beloved daughter.

Desperate Attempts To Save the Loved One

The trailer then cuts to the next scene, where we see Amaya’s missing poster and her parents telling the media that they will pay 100,000 Euros for any information that leads to the finding of their daughter. While everyone is searching for the girl in their own way, Miren appears to have dealt with a similar incident before, as she is shown screaming in a dark place. Despite their best efforts, they are unable to locate Amaya.

However, the story provides some glimmer of hope by presenting a rabbit mask that presumably belongs to the kidnapper. At this point, the case becomes a serial abduction, as police mention how they have been following the case for over a half decade and have yet to catch the perpetrator. Nonetheless, it appears that God has answered the parents’ cries, as Miren receives a videotape of Amaya from an anonymous person in the mail.

Chasing the Leads

While the trailer doesn’t reveal whether the perpetrator delivered the tape himself or what the person wants, it does provide a clue to move the story forward. Miren, who is determined to find Amaya, begins her investigation with the help of inspector Millan using the clue she obtained from the tape. Following that, we see some evidence shots and police sketches involving a yellow jacket, which could have belonged to one of the previous victims. Miren eventually makes progress in her investigation and gets close to locating the perpetrator.

She then goes on to explain how there is always a tell in these crimes and that something is always wrong with the suspects. In the next scene, we see a man staring creepily at a little girl on a bus, and Miren notices him and shakes him out of his daze. It’s possible that the trailer foreshadows the culprit, or it could just be a fluke to confuse the viewers. Later on, we see her sitting in prison, speaking with an inmate who could be a significant character in her backstory, which will most likely help them with the clues they’ve gathered thus far.

The trailer then concludes with a series of cuts showing the same stalker from the bus snapping a picture with the camera and Miren fighting with a man and fleeing into her car to avoid someone who could be the main perpetrator behind everything. Despite the odds, Miren is determined to track down Amaya, and her motivations and history are intriguingly explored throughout the trailer. While the trailer did reveal a lot of things that could later end up spoiling the series for viewers, they don’t have to be major plot twists.

The Snow Girl, the upcoming Spanish thriller series based on Javier Castillo’s best-selling book, will premiere on Netflix on January 27.
