It is undoubtedly true that Stiles was a massive part of Teen Wolf. The series would never have been the same without him. Stiles played an integral role in the McCall Pack and defeating the villains of Beacon Hills. The notion that a Teen Wolf revival movie would not include him resulted in fans being shocked and worried that the film could not hold up to expectations with a vital piece missing. It also does not help that fans finally got the romance they wanted from Stiles and Lydia in the final season, only for both couple members not to appear in the film. The brotherhood and friendship between Stiles and Scott was also a massive part of the show. However, while Stiles may be noticeably missed, that does not mean that the film could not tell a solid story without him.

Given the time jump from the end of the series, it could likely be explained that enough time had passed to justify Stiles not returning to Beacon Hills, whether the movie explains it is due to professional or personal reasons. However, plenty of other characters are returning to Beacon Hills to deal with a brand-new threat that may be closer to their hearts and history than they might want to deal with.
Scott Is The Heart Of The Show

Stiles may have been an integral part of what made Teen Wolf as successful as it was, but he did not do it alone. Another reason why Teen Wolf thrived was due to its central character, Scott McCall. Scott was an underdog, someone who never wanted the lifestyle that came with the werewolf bite he received the night he and Stiles went searching for a dead body. Scott’s morals and unwillingness to compromise them, including his refusal to kill, helped ground the show. Scott’s friendships went beyond Stiles as he also bonded with Lydia, Malia, Derek, Liam, and the rest of the pack. Scott’s romance with Allison was the series’ first significant and long-lasting couple. In addition, his relationship with his mother and eventual friendship with Chris Argent helped Scott grow a solid pack and foundation of relationships.
Scott McCall was the heart of the Pack as someone who could bring everyone together. He cared deeply about Beacon Hills and did everything he could to protect the town from whichever villain was attempting to cause harm.
Many Other Main Characters Return
Luckily, Scott will not be the only member of the McCall Pack to be returning to Beacon Hills. He will be joined by Lydia, Malia, Liam, and several other Teen Wolf alumns. These relationships were all very well-defined and highlighted throughout the six seasons Teen Wolf ran, and thus seeing them again could help bandage the wound of Stiles not being there. While Stiles held essential and amusing dynamics with many, if not all, of the other main characters, he was not the only one to do so. Everyone else’s return will help to understand where everyone ended up after the series finale and how they fit into each other’s lives in the present day. Stiles’ whereabouts may be mentioned, as it will be challenging to avoid referencing him, given his tight connections to everyone else. However, although Stiles was a fan-favorite, several other characters were as well.
Season 6b
Dylan O’Brien did not participate in the entirety of Teen Wolf’s final season. During season 6a, Teen Wolf got creative around Stiles being missing by introducing the Ghost Riders and having the storyline surrounding Stiles being absent. At the same time, Scott, Lydia, and Malia attempted to understand who they had forgotten and prove Stiles was real. It was a heavily emotional season as everyone slowly started recalling their missing link.
In season 6b, Stiles’ role was even more reduced, as he had been in Virginia for FBI training and education, a reasonable justification for the character’s absence. However, season 6b also proves the series has told a solid story without Stiles being present. Although he was missed and did return for the series finale, Teen Wolf heavily relied on the bonds between Scott, Lydia, and Malia to make up for Stiles’ absence. So even if it was not the most popular season, it did prove that Stiles being absent did not prevent the series from moving forward.
Emotional Impact Of Allison’s Return
Allison received a tragic death in Teen Wolf’s third season, dying at the hands of the Nogitsune before the final battle. Allison’s death was brutal for everyone, and it took a long time for the rest of the pack to recover from such a massive loss. Allison’s return to Teen Wolf is an emotional hit that will likely take up a lot of screen time. Everyone had grieved and mourned for Allison, eventually coming to terms with the fact that they had to move forward. However, Allison’s return, in whatever form it may be, has the easy potential of opening old wounds. How does Allison’s return affect the group years later? How is she back? Why is she back? Allison’s return is a mystery that would need to be solved, and the emotional ramifications of her return could help keep the emotions of missing Stiles at bay.
