When you’ve got a fever, we all know there is one only cure. More cowbell! And who’s the man that can bring us that cowvbell? None other than the Saturday Night Live alumni himself, Will Ferrell. This time he shocked even Latin pop star Marc Anthony with the power of the cowbell.

On Tuesday night in New York City, the very unique once in a liifetime collaboration took place at the Maestro Cares Foundation’s “Changing Lives. Buidling Dreams” gala. Will Ferrell was honored with the “Courage to Care Award.” Marc Anthony, who founded Maestro Care in 2012 with Henry Cárdenas as a nonprofit meant to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged children and communities in Latin America and the U.S, was also there to perform at athe gala.

When the singer took the stage to sing his 1999 hit, “I Need to Know,” Ferrell joined him on stage with the cowbell in hand. “I can’t hear the cowbell!” Anthony yelled on stage. Ferrell might not have been on beat but the band and Anthony continued to play as the crowd went crazy for the duo.

The moment was a reference to the 2000 SNL sketch in which music producer Bruce Dickinson (played by Christopher Walken) repeatedly insists that the band Blue Öyster Cult add “more cowbell” during the recording of their 1976 hit “(Don’t Fear) the Reaper.” Ferrell stars in the sketch as the band’s fictional cowbell player Gene Frenkle, alongside Chris Kattan, Chris Parnell, Horatio Sanz and Jimmy Fallon ( who could hardly keep a straight face.) The sketch has become one of the classics and clearly one of Will Ferrell’s greatist hits. Even Marc Anthony knows when a song needs more cowbell. Check out the footage below.

You can’t invite Will Ferrell to an event and not expect him to steal the show and given a chance to play more cowbell on stage … well, that’s just the perfect mixture for a good time.
