The Office is one of the most acclaimed and popular sitcoms of the last 50 years. Along with productions such as Friends, Seinfeld, and The Nanny, it has managed to go down in history thanks to its unique humor and outstanding show format. Therefore, it would not be a surprise that, in the era of reboots and revivals, we see some new stories from it.

This year marks ten years since the end of the show, and it seems that NBC executives want to celebrate the significant anniversary of one of their biggest hits in history. Susan Rovner, Chairman of Entertainment Content at NBCUniversal TV and Streaming, joined THR’s TV’s Top 5 podcast to talk about the possibility of The Office making its triumphal return:

If this wish comes true, The Office could join shows like Bel-Air or Saved by the Bell, which is part of a wave of nostalgia started by Peacock to boost its platform, bringing back some of NBC Universal’s most popular productions to accompany their new original content like Rian Johnson’s Poker Face, which has already become a hit on the service.

“Whatever Greg Daniels wants to do, I’m standing by with open arms.”

In 2019, NBC chairman of Digital Enterprises Bonnie Hammer said that one of her big ambitions was to get more Office-related projects done:

“It is my hope and goal that we do an Office reboot. It is my hope that we can figure out what that great reboot would be. We are having conversations.”

What’s The Office About?

     NBC

The Office is an American sitcom developed by Greg Daniels, based on the BBC series of the same name, created by Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant. It stars Steve Carell as Michael Scott, Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute, John Krasinski as Jim Halpert, and Jenna Fischer as Pam Beesly and focuses on the day-to-day lives of the employees of the Scranton branch of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.

Although a fictional and scripted show, it is shot in documentary format, with characters often acknowledging the presence of the cameras and using talking head segments, sometimes known as a mockumentary.

Most of the episodes focus on Michael’s attempts to be not only a good boss but also a good friend to his employees. Unfortunately, he constantly acts the wrong way and says the most inappropriate thing possible, becoming the exact opposite of what he expects. The Office ran for nine seasons receiving praise from critics and audiences alike.
