Everyone loves a good sidekick. Whether they’re the comedy relief or the partner in crime, a great sidekick to support a leading character can make or break a story. The side characters help to support a hero or main character on their missions, helps keep them grounded, and do a lot to keep the plot going. Side characters are often overshadowed by their lead counterpart, but that doesn’t make them any less vital to a story.
While many loveable sidekicks tend to get overlooked or forgotten by audience members, others absolutely steal the show. These characters support a story but leave audiences wanting to see more of them and know the story of the sidekick. There are plenty of incredible characters that deserve their own spinoff, much like the recent release of Obi-Wan Kenobi. These are a few that audiences might like to see.

Hit-Girl (Kick-Ass 1 & 2)
Universal Pictures
The hilarious action movies in the Kick-Ass duology brought one of Chloe Grace Moretz’s best roles to life. Her character Hit-Girl is raised in a lifestyle of vigilante justice, and every moment of hers on screen leaves audiences at the edge of their seats as they watch her fight scenes. Hit-Girl is the best combination of femininity and awesomeness, making her an exciting and inspiring character.

If Hit-Girl were to get her own series or show, audiences would be able to see more of how she and her father, Big Daddy, played by Nicolas Cage, got into the life of vigilante justice. The show would have betrayal, grief, action, and heartfelt moments between father and daughter (even when he trains her to take a bullet by shooting her in a kevlar vest). The spinoff could reunite with the original movies in the finale, posing an opportunity for Aaron Taylor Johnson to return as Kick-Ass himself.
Frozone (The Incredibles 1 & 2)
Disney/Pixar
Then, of course, there’s the suave superhero that stole the film with just one interaction with his wife (who is the greatest good he’s ever gonna get) – Frozone. This Pixar character is one with a fun style and charismatic energy that everyone loves to watch. He’s captivating and heroic and leaves viewers wanting more. Even though he’s the supporting character to Mr. Incredible, he would get nowhere without his best buddy Frozone, who helps save the day time and time again.
Pixar has some exciting projects lined up, but they should definitely consider adding a Frozone spinoff to that list. It would be a series that kids and adults can enjoy, full of adventures led by a Black superhero fighting against a wide range of villains and threats.
Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Deadpool 1 & 2)
20th Century Fox
The Marvel movies starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool are unique and hysterical and are favourites for fans old enough to watch the films. They’re so different from the usual movies they make with a cast of characters equally as interesting and unique as the title character. But some of the best moments come from when Deadpool interacts with Negasonic Teenage Warhead, the sarcastic and jaded X-Man.

While this character hasn’t been confirmed yet for Deadpool 3, she definitely deserves more screen time. Having her own spinoff would give her the opportunity for character growth and give Marvel fans a closer look into the lives of the X-Men. A teenage lead character would be enjoyable to watch, especially one so powerful. Audiences could see the story of NTW coming into her powers, becoming an X-Man, meeting Deadpool, and then getting together with her girlfriend, Yukio. There’s plenty of opportunity for an engaging story when it comes to this side character, and having it framed in the intense action that the Deadpool movies are known for would make it even more enticing for fans.
The Weird Sisters (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina)
Netflix
Those that remember the gritty reboot The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina might remember all the allusions to horror and witchy literature within the show. There was the witch Sister Shirley Jackson, the hobgoblin Robin Goodfellow, and most memorable of all were the Weird Sisters, who were an allusion to the witches in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The show suggests that once witches sign their souls to the Dark Lord and come into their powers, they can live for centuries at a time, implying that the Weird Sisters in the show are the same ones that might have influenced the bard himself.
The Weird Sisters are clever and cunning characters with a twinge of maliciousness that makes an audience love to hate them. While they have some nice character development in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, it would be interesting to see them before the show takes place – the three of them wreaking havoc and casting playful curses on people throughout history. A spinoff would show viewers more about the world of witchcraft in this universe and give them an exciting trio of morally-grey and incredibly powerful women to watch. We know we haven’t seen the last of Sabrina just yet, but the Weird Sisters definitely deserve their moment to shine.
A good sidekick always makes a show or movie more enjoyable to watch. They keep a story grounded and entertaining. There are more side characters that deserve some recognition than we can count, but who knows whether any of them will get their time to shine.
