Willow showrunner Jonathan Kasdan is hoping for more adventures with the sorcerer should the upcoming outing prove a success for Disney+. Speaking with Den of Geek, Kasdan revealed his plans for more stories involving Warwick Davis’ Willow Ufgood, though the first season has been planned as a satisfying, solitary adventure should that be the case.

Willow will continue the story first told way, way back in 1988, picking up with Warwick Davis as the title character all these years later. Running for eight episodes, this new journey begins when an unlikely group of six heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home in search of the twin brother of Kit, the daughter of Madmartigan (Val Kilmer’s character in the first movie). Kasdan also reveals that the quest will involve finding the prophesied hero Elora Danan, the mysterious baby Willow is tasked with protecting in the first outing and helping her face her destiny.

“We are building a plan to continue the story, and hopefully, it ends in a way that demands more because we think this is a fun world, and the threats that we’re setting up in season one aren’t resolved by the end of it. But I also hope that within itself, the season is satisfying because it also excites you to see what happens next.”

The response to the continuing adventures of Willow has been overwhelmingly positive so far, and should the first season prove to be a success with audiences; there is no doubt that we will see more from the beloved character courtesy of Kasdan and Disney+.

“That was my whole argument to everyone. And it’s echoed in the ancillary novels that emerged in the late ‘90s. But the question the movie begs is, ‘What happened to Elora Danan?’”

Willow Will Premiere on Disney+ Later This Week

Willow sees Warwick Davis return to the role of Willow Ufgood, a Nelwyn sorcerer who must lead a rag-rag party to rescue the twin brother of a princess. “The most emotional moment on the set was Warwick’s first costume fitting when he came out of the dressing room in that cloak for the first time and we saw him fully made up… you couldn’t not connect that to your childhood in a powerful and profound way,” Kasdan said of seeing Davis back in the role he last played over 30 years ago.

Mare of Easttown star Ruby Cruz stars as Kit, the princess on the hunt for her brother. The rest of the cast includes Erin Kellyman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Solo: A Star Wars Story), Ellie Bamber (The Serpent, Les Misérables), Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Amar Chadha-Patel (The Wheel of Time), Dempsey Bryk (The Silence) as Airk, the prince and Kit’s twin brother, and Joanne Whalley, who reprises her role as Sorsha from the first Willow.

Additionally, Kevin Pollak and Rick Overton will reprise their roles as brownie duo Rool and Franjean, respectively, with Ralph Ineson, Christian Slater, and Warwick Davis’ daughter Annabelle Davis also along for the adventure.

Willow is scheduled to premiere on November 30, 2022, on Disney+.
