A prequel to author A.A. Milne’s literary classic, Winnie-the-Pooh, is now in the works courtesy of the minds behind Madagascar and The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show. As revealed by THR, the prequel project will delve into the early years of Pooh and attempt to reignite the love for the character and his friends in the same way that 2014’s critically-acclaimed Paddington did for that legendary anthropomorphic bear.
The Winnie-the-Pooh prequel is now in development at Baboon Animation and IQI Media, Inc. DreamWorks alumni Mike de Seve, who is best known for the likes of Madagascar and Monsters vs. Aliens, is being tapped to direct the project, which he will co-write with The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show’s John Reynolds.

“We’re telling the surprising origin story of the ‘silly young bear’ and his friends, when they were still kids, in a way designed to connect with 21st-century kids,” Reynolds said of the project.
“I think this unsinkable young cub is totally relatable for today’s kids, with his hell-bent craving for honey and his ludicrous schemes to get it," de Seve adds. “The whole gang is hilarious, and are even more hilarious as kids, we’re finding out.”
Charlene Kelly, another DreamWorks alum who is now over at IQI and CSO of Winvest, will executive produce. “A.A. Milne’s bear has aged gracefully in the last hundred years,” Kelly said of the character and his legacy. “But what happened, back when, that made him and his pals who they are in the book? A heck of a big adventure, that’s what – one that needs a big screen. Audiences will be transported to somewhere they never expected.”
The Winnie-the-Pooh prequel is being developed as a movie that will immediately lead into a television series.
Before the Prequel, Winnie-the-Pooh Will First Become a Serial Killer
Jagged Edge Productions
The Winnie-the-Pooh property recently fell into public domain, and some have not wasted a moment to bring audiences a version of the bear the likes of which they have never seen before. More specifically, Pooh and Piglet will become slasher killers in the upcoming Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.
As every child knows, Christopher Robin befriended Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, and their friends, playing games and providing them with food. What we all don’t know, however, is that as he grew, these visits became more infrequent, as did the food supply, causing Pooh and the others to grow increasingly hungry and desperate.
When Christopher went off to college, his visits to the Hundred Acre Wood stopped completely, causing Pooh and Piglet to become completely feral and unhinged. Now, Christopher Robin has returned to the forest alongside his new wife, hoping to introduce her to his old friends. Unfortunately for them, Pooh and Piglet will not forgive that easily, with the pair going on a murderous rampage for human flesh as they antagonize a group of university girls occupying a rural cabin.
Directed and written by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, this warped retelling of the A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard’s Winnie-the-Pooh books is scheduled to be released on February 15, 2023, for a one-night event and is coming soon to DVD and VOD worldwide.
