The Hufflepuff House within Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry is made up of young witches and wizards that trend more towards loyalty. Deemed the antithesis to the Slytherin House, Hufflepuffs are likelier to fight a fair fight than to ensure their victory through devious means, traits that can be seen throughout the film franchise.

Here, we will look at the members of this House that haven’t gotten their just due, as their supporting attitude often leaves them as background players in the greater scheme of things. While their actions may have been forgotten or glossed over, every wizard can leave an impact. We will be ranking these wizards and witches based on their impact on the story and the growth they personally experienced overall.

5 Pomona Sprout

     Warner Bros. Pictures

As the head instructor of Hufflepuff House, Pomona Sprout does her best to teach her students and raise them to become patient and loyal guardians to those they hold dear. She even once protected her classroom from a Boggart that had taken the form of a Werewolf, then calmly informed her students what the Boggart was and that they should inform Professor Dumbledore of the incident.

Professor Sprout would be the teacher of Herbology, with her excellence on the subject proving to be very useful to the safety of the school on numerous occasions. As Harry Potter and company would discover on their quest to find the Philosopher’s Stone, Professor Sprout had been tasked with adding to the many defenses, and she had planted Devil’s Snare in one of the first rooms. While the Snare would catch anyone from falling, it would also eventually constrict them to death unless exposed to sunlight or fire. Professor Sprout would also save many lives as she would work diligently to make Mandrake Draught a brew that would save many students and staff from petrification.

4 Cedric Diggory

Cedric Diggory was a Hufflepuff of high acclaim, having been appointed as Prefect and the Quidditch team captain. Despite these significant accomplishments and the popularity among his own house, Cedric wasn’t truly thrust into the limelight until he was selected as the Hogwarts Champion for the Triwizard Cup Tournament. Unfortunately, in classic Hufflepuff fashion, Cedric’s spotlight would be stolen by another when Harry Potter was also selected for the tournament, despite being ineligible.

Cedric didn’t let this get to him, even as most of the student body turned against Harry. Cedric actively defended his classmate’s honor and traded helpful clues so that the two would eventually tie into the tournament’s final task. After helping each other survive the maze, the duo would be trapped and teleported into a graveyard where Peter Pettigrew would mercilessly slay Cedric. Even in death, Cedric’s loyalty remained beyond the grave, helping to protect Harry as Harry escaped Voldemort’s wrath, carrying Cedric’s body with him. Cedric’s death would inspire a movement, making his brief turn in the spotlight everlasting.

3 Theseus Scamander

Theseus, while the older brother of Newt, couldn’t have been more different. Whereas his younger brother grew fascinated with animals and magical creatures, Newt was more focused on the laws of the wizarding world. Theseus proved to be an excellent wizard, eventually becoming an Auror for the British Ministry of Magic and being entrusted with significant assignments such as the hunt for Gellert Grindlewald and his subjects.

Despite the brother’s extreme differences, Theseus constantly puts his reputation on the line for Newt. Whether taking time off his busy schedule to attend his brother’s book premiere or vouching for Newt’s travel ban to be lifted, Theseus constantly stood up for his family. While Theseus would often look at matters in a black-and-white fashion, he was willing to break the very laws he held dear if it meant doing what he felt was right.

2 Nymphadora Tonks

Tonks is another Hufflepuff that would become an Auror, though her path was much less certain than Theseus’. Tonks is a Metamorphmagus, a witch who can transform any of her physical features. Tonks is also a klutz, constantly knocking things over, leading to her stealth test being a bit more of a challenge than her other tests.

Tonks remained loyal to her friends and, to an extent, her family, even though the elitist House of Black had disowned her and her mother. Tonks held her first cousin, once removed, Sirius Black, in high regard and was devastated when she learned of his death. With this and Fleur Delacour’s love for Bill Weasley, Tonks tells Remus Lupin that she loves him and that nothing else (not even his lycanthropy) matters. Tonks would always go out of her way to make others happy, but would stand by her husband’s side during the final battle, ultimately dying at the hands of her maternal aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange.

1 Newton Scamander

Newt Scamander may be the finest example of a Hufflepuff. A man who had taken charge of leading the first Wizarding World film not to include Harry Potter, and after Fantastic Beast & Where To Find Them (2016), Newt would become a supporting character to the more prominent protagonist, Albus Dumbledore.

Newt would come to be known as one of the most renowned Magizoologists in the world, studying and caring for magical creatures meticulously and passionately. While Newt would often come across as awkward and anxious regarding human companionship, he would often step outside his comfort zone for his friends and family. Such as when he initiated physical contact with his brother, embracing him after Theseus’ fiancé Leta had sacrificed herself; or when he stood up to Queenie when he realized that his best friend, Jacob, had been put under the effects of a love charm.
