Wonder Man is finally appearing in a live-action series thanks to Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter. Guest will serve as head writer and executive producer on the Marvel Cinematic Universe project, with Cretton developing the series. In addition, he will write and possibly direct episodes for the show, as he’s currently under an overall deal with Marvel Studios. Excluding his role as the creator of the Wonder Man series, Cretton is also working on the sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which he is set to write and direct.

Guest is the latest in a swarm of writers joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe at Disney+. Variety reported last month that Matt Corman and Chris Ord would write and executive produce a new Daredevil series premiering on the streaming service, with Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio reprising their roles. The pair already appeared within the canon MCU, with Cox returning in Spider-Man: No Way Home and D’Onofrio in Hawkeye.

Wonder Man, otherwise known as Simon Williams, was first introduced in 1964 as a villain to the ever-present Avengers. He’s the son of a wealthy industrialist whose luck begins to turn when competitor Stark Industries arrives. Williams eventually accepts an offer from Baron Zemo, a well-known MCU character who grants him superpowers, including super strength. After several run-ins with the heroic crime-fighting Avengers, Williams joins their ranks, creating the Los Angeles-based West-Coast Avengers. Due to his day job as an actor and stuntman, Wonder Man gained notable popularity. The Hollywood superhero route may be a direction that Disney+ takes with the character, as we haven’t seen anything like that thus far in the MCU.

What Experience Do Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest Have?

Destin Daniel Cretton should be a perfect match with Wonder Man. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was one of the most universally praised films from Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Audiences and critics enjoyed how the origin story developed and the superb action and comedy that kept fans entertained. In addition, the film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Achievement in Visual Effects.

Guest has work within the MCU under his belt as well. He acted as consulting producer on Hawkeye, which was released last year, and was generally enjoyed by viewers. The series followed the characters Hawkeye and Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld. Guest also has experience in comedy, working on shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community, and 30 Rock.

We will have to wait and see how the duo tackles Wonder Man and how they can differentiate the Disney+ series from the other projects Marvel Studious have released.
