The star-studded crew for upcoming space film Project Artemis continues to grow. According to a report from Collider, Woody Harrelson has now officially joined the cast for the feature. The Apple Original Film’s project will be released on Apple TV+, but it does not yet have a release date.

Harrelson’s character role in Project Artemis is still under wraps, but he’ll be working alongside Hollywood heavyweights Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Channing Tatum (Magic Mike) who are set as the lead roles, along with Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond), Jim Rash (Bros), Anna Garcia (Superstore), Colin Woodell (The Purge), and many others. Both Jason Bateman (Ozark) and Chris Evans (Captain America) were initially slated to be a part of the production, but dropped out due to creative and scheduling conflicts.

Lead actor Johansson is also producing the film while Greg Berlanti (Love, Simon) is directing. The screenplay is being written by Rose Gilroy. The premise of the film also remains vague, but it does apparently center around the historical Space Race of the 1960s. Filming officially began last October in Atlanta, along with a casting call for extras to play NASA staff and FBI agents. With a $100 million production budget and a strong cast lineup, suffice to say the project will have quite a substantial scale.

Harrelson Continues to Run His Own Race of Acclaimed Works

Project Artemis is just one of many recent projects that award-winning actor Harrelson has been gracefully stampeding through lately. He already has a long, outstanding filmography, as far back as his early years in hits like Natural Born Killers (1994) and landmark bowling comedy Kingpin (1996). He’s also led strong roles in dramatic films such as North Country (2005), No Country For Old Men (2007), and Seven Pounds (2008).

Adding on to those accomplishments are iconic blockbusters such as the gritty zombie comedy Zombieland (2009) in which Harrelson had impeccable chemistry with younger co-star Jesse Eisenberg, and his unforgettable role as Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games mega-franchise. He also brought his suave comedic flair to the stylish neo-magician hit Now You See Me (2013) and its 2016 sequel. To top it all off, he officially cemented a Marvel notch in his belt with both Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021).

As for his current schedule, Harrelson wrapped on the black comedy Triangle of Sadness (2022), as well as The Man From Toronto (2022), where he starred alongside Kevin Hart. This year, along with Project Artemis, he has both the sports comedy Champions (2023) and Suncoast in post-production. As well, he’ll be starring in HBO’s newest upcoming political drama White House Plumbers. With an ever-growing, impossibly diverse career of film, Harrelson is and has proved himself a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood, and one of the greatest, still underrated actors of our generation.
