The 2003 film X2: X-Men United co-starred film legend Brian Cox as the evil and tough-as-nails Colonel William Stryker. Controversial filmmaker Bryan Singer directed the highly successful film. However, almost two decades after its theatrical release Brian Cox has come to Singer’s defense while also acknowledging the director’s disturbing behavior. In a candid interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Cox spoke about his life and career and briefly touched on his experience working on X2: X-Men United and his time with Singer.

Cox told Yahoo Entertainment that at the time of filming X2, that Singer was “under a lot of strain.” He added that “Singer’s haphazard behavior often led to scenes being rewritten on the spot. One of his great things was that when he came to a new set, he would have to rethink it. He’d have a thought, and then have to rethink [the scene]. So that was always a difficult transition for him. But once he cracked it, he cracked it very quickly and was able to get on with it.” Cox added that he thought that despite Singers’ faults that he was an “extraordinary director” and “really, really gifted.” Cox concluded that he would always be grateful to Singer because he was cast as the iconic character in X2.
