The Emmy-nominated series Yellowjackets got its first look at the new season in a recent teaser video from Showtime. The show, developed by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, tells the story of a group of female high school soccer players who survive a tragic plane crash in a remote northern landscape. Over 5 million viewers watched the series across platforms during Season 1 of the show, which received seven Emmy nominations, including “Outstanding Drama Series” and “Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series.” In addition, Melanie Lynskey (Shauna) was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series, while Christina Ricci (Misty) was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series.

Showtime subscribers can stream and watch on-demand as the Season 2 premiere is set for March 24, 2023, ahead of its TV premiere on March 26. The recently released teaser can be found below.

Yellowjackets alternates between two timelines as the girls struggle to survive the environment and each other in two parallel timelines. The first timeline takes place in the 90s when the teens survive the accident and become stranded in a forest. During the second timeline, the survivors try to maintain a normal adult life without discussing past events from their time in the wilderness. In addition, the few remaining survivors are forced to deal with the secrets of what happened decades ago.

The second season begins following the tragic loss of a group member that causes a rift within the teenagers. Yellowjackets’ cast includes Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, and Liv Hewson as the younger group of characters. The cast will also consist of Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, and Tawny Cypress.

Gary Levine, Showtime Networks’ president of entertainment, told Vulture earlier this year that the network planned to premiere at the end of 2022. However, with the most recent March release update, fans will need to wait a bit longer to see what happens next.

Yellowjackets’ first season left many questions unanswered. Luckily, Season 2 should provide at least some of the answers we’re hoping for. This is when we consider that the show’s casting alone reveals some names that may have made it out of the woods unnoticed. Among the cast additions in Season 2 are Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi), and Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings).

“We’d love to stay on an annual cycle. I think our audiences deserve that, and I also think that when you have a show that has this kind of a momentum, you don’t want to let it dissolve.”
