MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

A few details have been revealed about Purnell’s reported character. She’s said to be playing the show’s lead, a young woman named Jean who is described as having a “can-do attitude who may be hiding a dangerous secret.” Her co-star, Goggins, will reportedly be playing a ghoul, someone left mutated by the atomic warfare that has left the Fallout universe a barren wasteland filled with bizarre creatures and sinister raiders.

Given the success and popularity of the Showtime series, Purnell may be best known for her role in Yellowjackets, playing one of the series’ leads. She also appeared in Zack Snyder’s zombie movie Army of the Dead, which just won the Fan Favorite award at the Oscars on Sunday night. Purnell is also known for her lead role in the Starz series Sweetbitter and has appeared in movies like Maleficent, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and Churchill.

Fallout Has Been a Long Time Coming

What might have helped this series get its green light is the rise of video game adaptations’ popularity in recent years. Last year, Mortal Kombat was the most-watched original movie released on HBO Max. 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog was a massive success at the box office, with its upcoming sequel looking to do the same. Other studios have similarly noticed and have been investing big bucks into video game adaptations, notably the high-budget series based on The Last of Us at HBO with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Because Fallout has long been anticipated, Prime Video’s adaptation is certainly a part of the conversation.

Fallout doesn’t have a premiere date set for Prime Video yet, but the project will start production in 2022.
