Kelly Reilly manages to steal each scene she’s in as Beth Dutton in Yellowstone. The actress plays the only daughter in the Dutton family, and she’s done whatever it takes to keep her father’s ranch together. “It’s the one constant in life. You build something worth having, someone’s gonna try and take it,” Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton, says in Season 2. Unfortunately, the words have rung true through four seasons, as the family can’t seem to escape trouble.
Beth is at the center of it all, personally dealing with most of the challengers who wish to take over the Yellowstone, though it hasn’t been easy. During the finale of Season 3, a bomb is sent to Beth’s office, and though she survives, she is severely injured. That’s just one of several problems the character has faced, and Reilly says there’s way more in store for the character in Season 5. The actress recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly ahead of the fifth season’s release and gave fans a few things to look forward to.

Fans will see the return of Kevin Costner (John Dutton), Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton), Wes Bentley (Jamie Dutton), and Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) when Yellowstone Season 5 premieres for Paramount on Nov. 13.
“This season you can see it all coming to a head. The fight’s coming from every direction. Beth is more like a wild animal this season than ever. When I read the scripts, it made me think [that] she is, for the first time, maybe afraid she will lose it for [her dad]. It’s dark, brutal and desperate stuff – gaining power, losing it, defending and fighting. It’s bloody and at times beautiful in how it breaks them into their core selves.”

Yellowstone has quickly become a successful franchise since the series debuted in 2018. A spinoff, titled 1883, arrived in December 2021, receiving fantastic reviews from critics and audiences. Now, creator Taylor Sheridan will continue with Yellowstone prequels in the latest series, 1923.
The show stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in the lead roles of Jacob and Cara Dutton. Brandon Sklenar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, and Marley Shelton round out the cast for the prequel. The official synopsis for 1923 reads: “The Duttons face a new set of challenges in the early 20th century, including the rise of Western expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression.”
1923 looks to be yet another award-winning entry in the Yellowstone franchise, giving audiences something to look forward to as the second half of Season 5 continues to roll out. Yellowstone will air seven episodes in the first part of the season, concluding on Dec. 18. 1923 will premiere the same night, exclusively on Paramount+.
