Unlike the one-season show 1883, the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff 1923 won’t be a limited series. Deadline reports that 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment have formally renewed the spinoff for a second season on Paramount+, and the plan is to get the same cast members to return, at least for those whose characters make it to the end. Like the planned freshman season, season 2 will consist of eight episodes, bringing the total number of episodes up to 16 at this point.

As has been reported, 1923 stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. It’s said that the series will primarily focus on the construction of the Yellowstone Ranch, and as progress continues to move along, it would appear that there was more story to tell with the show. When the show was first announced, it was called 1932 before having its title take it back another decade, but with this renewal, perhaps the story will end up carrying over into the 30s. This is in line with additional information in the Deadline report that notes Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is also working on separate spinoffs that will detail the family’s struggle to keep hold of the ranch in the 1940s and 1960s as well.

The first spinoff to come was 1883 which premiered on Paramount+ in December. Featuring an all-star cast including Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliott, the limited series explored how the Duttons arrived at the area where the Yellowstone Ranch would be built. The spinoff was highly acclaimed and drew in high viewership, and it’s all leading to much more of the universe to be fleshed out in the years ahead; yet another spinoff, called 6666, has also been announced, this one said to be set in the present day.

Yellowstone Continues With Its Fifth Season

Even with so much work being put into spinoffs, the Yellowstone series continues to move forward on its own. Its anticipated fifth season is coming to Paramount Network next month following the fourth season’s finale drawing 10 million viewers. Season 5 kicks off with a two-hour premiere ahead of the series premiere of Tulsa King, another Sheridan-created series featuring Sylvester Stallone in the starring role.

“If you look at everyone as a chess piece, in Season 5 it is impossible to keep playing the game without taking pieces off the board,” Sheridan previously told Entertainment Tonight about what’s up ahead, teasing some major character deaths in the next season.

Yellowstone will debut its fifth season on Nov. 13, 2022, on Paramount Network. 1923 does not yet have a premiere date set at Paramount+.
