DC has been under fire lately because they decided to recast Superman, and Henry Cavill will not return. Fans have taken to Twitter and social media to express their disappointment. Vanity Fair reports that Actor Zachary Levi (Shazam!) came to DC’s defense over the decision, which he says has its reasons that fans need to respect.

Levi goes on to say that as an actor in the DC universe, he would respect the decisions of the higher-ups if they decided that something about his projects needed to shift or be re-evaluated. James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new co-chiefs of DC Studios, have been hit with the brunt of the dismay from Superman fans who believe that Gunn and Safran are making decisions that threaten the franchise. Levi says that fans need to give the co-chiefs a break and stop being so hard on them.

“You have no idea the reasonings behind any of the decisions going on. The amount of conjecture and rumor mill and drama and nonsense that keeps getting spun around out there on Instagram and Twitter is laughable. It is unbelievably laughable.”

Zachary Levi has urged fans to give the co-chiefs time to prove themselves at DC as they seek to improve the franchise. The co-chiefs, James Gunn and Peter Safran have been in charge for little more than a month, and in that time, there has been a lot of speculation and rumors galore about the changes that may take place with some fan favorites. In addition to the confirmation that Henry Cavill will not return to play Superman in the next film, other announcements have stirred up drama for DC fans.

James Gunn says a Black Adam sequel is not in the works anytime soon. Another shocker to fans was the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3. Ben Affleck may return to the DC universe as a director, and other projects have been reportedly pushed to the back burner.

Fans have taken to Twitter to express their discontent over James Gunn’s announcements thus far, utilizing the hashtag #FireJamesGunn and have been circulating a petition on Change.org. Gunn and Safran will announce their full plan to revamp DC at the beginning of 2023.
