A poster for the film upcoming film Zombie Town has been released. Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase, reunited on screen for the first time in years, will be in the movie, which is described as a “mystery teen romancer based on author R.L. Stine’s book of the same name.” The news comes courtesy of Bloody Disgusting and Entertainment Weekly.
Here’s the book’s official synopsis:
“We are delighted to bring the pages of R.L. Stine’s Zombie Town to the screen and equally thrilled to be working with such an exceptional cast and crew on this production. A three-time Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award winner with book sales of over $500 million, R.L. Stine has a phenomenal track record of crafting stories that engage and entertain audiences,” said John Gillespie, Trimuse Entertainment founder and executive producer, in a statement.
Peter Lepeniotis will serve as the film’s director, which has recently begun shooting in Ontario. Marlon Kazadi and Madi Monroe will play the teenage main characters. Also starring in the film are Scott Thompson, Bruce McCulloch, and Henry Czerny. Strangely, despite the poster probably declaring ‘Starring Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase Back Together Again!’ neither actor can be seen on the poster.
“This used to be such a nice, quiet town. But that was before all the zombies. When twelve-year-old Mike and his friend, Karen, go to see a horror movie called Zombie Town, the last thing they expect is for the title characters to come down off the screen and chase them through the theater. And it’s not popcorn these hungry creatures want to chomp on—it’s human brains!
“Now Mike and Karen frantically try to flee through the panicked streets of their hometown before shuffling bands of zombies turn every last citizen into a ravenous flesh-eater. But if Mike thinks he’ll be safe once he reaches his house and warns Mom and Dad, he’d better think again. When the zombies say it’s lunchtime, no home is safe! Zombie Town is R.L. Stine’s delightfully spooky take on the horror genre that’s infecting the world, bite by bite.”

What They’ve Done Before
Warner Bros.
Aykroyd and Chase, real-life friends who worked on Saturday Night Live in its early days, have worked on four movies together. The first was Spies Like Us (1985), about two bumbling U.S. agents who think their spies but couldn’t be more mistaken. Family Guy would later come out with a whole episode parodying the film, with Aykroyd and Chase guest starring as themselves.
The next was Caddyshack II (1988), a film that’s about exactly what the original Caddyshack was about, only nowhere near considered the comedy classic the first one was. In fact, it’s considered by several people to be one of the worst sequels ever made. Chase is the only actor to have reprised his role from the original.
The third is The Couch Trip (1988), though while Aykroyd played the main character, Chase only appeared in a cameo. The film’s premise concerns an escaped convict, played by Aykroyd, who assumes his doctor’s identity and takes over his practice and radio show. Other actors that appeared in the film include Walter Matthau, Charles Grodin, and Donna Dixon.
The last was Nothing but Trouble (1991), a horror comedy that co-starred Demi Moore and John Candy. Aykroyd wrote, directed, and starred in the film, which is about a businessman who gets trapped by a sadistic judge and his equally bizarre family. Nothing but Trouble was a huge bomb critically and financially when it was first released, but it has attracted some defenders over the years.
In 2012, the duo tried to get a separate project off the ground again, leading to Aykrody writing this over Facebook:
“Chevy (Chase) and I are about to start work on a script concept for a comedy movie. Cannot say too much about the concept, but the joy of working with him again is one that I am extremely excited about. Chevy is one of my favourite people, and one of the great anarchistic and physically committed comedians in the business.”
